Home and project studio consulting – Recording and mixing education -Album production coaching

I consult by the hour via phone, Skype or in person. I am located in the San Francisco Bay Area. 75 USD first hour, 50 per hour thereafter.

My first studio build was in 1996. Since then I have built and rebuilt home and project studios and acted as a consultant for many musicians and engineers. My experience is very broad and I have been involved in every aspect of the music production business. I use F. Alton Everest books as the base for my studio construction consulting and Bobby Owinski books as the base for my recording education curriculum. I use my 20 years of audio engineering experience as a recording, mixing and mastering engineer to assist you in a holistic way that takes all matters into consideration. I am a life long musican who bridges the divide between art and engineering.

For studio builds, I can save you countless hours of confusion and help you avoid critical mistakes. I can also save you thousands of dollars in equipment purchases. You may only need me to help you re-wire and configure your existing recording setup, or you may need to build one or more rooms from the ground up. On construction, I work with you personaly, your contractor, or my own construction asisstant.

Regarding recording education, I can fill in gaps in your knowledge base and teach you methods and techniques that can make a world of difference in your work. Regardless of whether you are an experienced engineer who wants to take their art to the next level or a musician who needs to learn recording from the beginning, I tailor my assistance to your situation. When in person, I teach hands on. You are the enginner who works the equipment, while I guide you and help you learn how to listen and what to listen for. When coaching by phone or Skype we can share audio files and even full mixes over the internet. I am familiar with all software DAWs especially Cubase, Pro Tools, Logic Pro X, GarageBand and Reaper. We can work with every situation.

I teach recording fundamentals that every engineer must master. I also teach acoustic based mixing techniques including rock, metal, jazz, blues, reggae, funk, etc., but I do not teach hip hop or electronic music mixing techniques.
